Justice for Girls

Justice for Girls Logo

The United Nations' 2030 Agenda for SDGs calls for equal access to justice for all. Without access to justice, people who live in poverty can be left behind, without a voice. PSGR is implementing a project targeting girls and women who are victims of sex trafficking and other forms of sexual exploitation to access justice for the violations suffered.

Oftentimes, cases of sex trafficking are never taken seriously in courts as evidenced by poor investigation reports and small sentences meted out to traffickers. In the worst-case scenario, such cases are never investigated or prosecuted even when they are reported. This means the victims, who are often poor girls and women, are denied justice, and the traffickers are never held to account for their actions.

PSGR is therefore working to address these systemic challenges that deny girls and women access to justice, to ensure they are protected from sex trafficking, and that the traffickers are brought to book in line with the dictates of the law.

The project is also raising awareness among everyone in the ecosystem to understand what sex trafficking is, how it manifests itself, and the harms suffered by girls and women victims of sex trafficking. Equally important, it aims to engage the government for improved service delivery – specialized counseling, availability of state-run shelters, compensations, and economic empowerment of survivors.
